Caleb has been doing so well with using his switches lately and vocalizing actual sounds (of letters). It's been making me quite excited. Sometimes he makes mistakes with his switches and gets upset. You can totally see it in his facial expressions but then he usually corrects himself quickly. He's so quick to respond with questions when it's something he is interested in. Today he got another switch so he can use it to answer either yes or no...just like he does in therapy! We were having a whole conversation with him using his two switches! And he was funny...he made me laugh! I know he's so much happier now that he can somehow communicate at least a little bit with us. Today was Caleb's last speech therapy session. They resubmitted for another six months but we will have to wait on that approval. We are also still waiting on the vital stim therapy (therapy that will help him learn to swallow again.) Please pray that both of the approvals will be done very soon. He's doing so well, I wouldn't want to delay much longer. Caleb also got his "report card" from speech therapy today and I was very pleased to read the entire thing! The things that were listed as his new short term goals kind of shocked me...I know what is happening and that he's going to do it all again but to read those words from a therapist was....the Greatest! I'm so excited to see the new things he will be doing! I can't wait and I know he can't wait.
Caleb has had quite an eventful week...going to the beach, swimming in the pool with Patrick, hiking up Makapu'u, hanging out with his crazy cousins, and his brother too.
This morning Caleb had a slight fever. I prayed over him and gave him some Motrin and it went down and hasn't returned since. But please pray that no sickness will come about.
I am half way done through my summer school. I do like it but I've been missing out on Caleb's therapy appointments. I'm so happy to hear good reports of the things he does but I don't like the fact that I am not there to see it all! This was one of the reasons why I wrestled with the decision to return to school. I don't know what I want to do now...
I bought a new Devotional Bible Book for Caleb and it's becoming a ritual for us to do devotions in the morning! I love it and the fact that we can do something together like that every morning. Sometimes I'll use his switch for him to interact more and answer questions. He's quite knowledgeable for a 4 year old. Here's the Bible Verse from our first day of devotions from this book...
"I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope." Psalm 130:5 NIV And here was the prayer...
Lord, It's sometimes hard to wait, But what you give is very great. Amen.
Isn't that the most perfect devotion to kick off with? Boy did we have a lot to talk about that one!
I've got TONS of pictures! But I've posted just a little sneak peak. I think I'll have to make a slide show with all the others later. Have a great week!

What a blessing to learn this technic of communication.
Kehau,
Go to school if this opportunity is provided and you have help with Caleb. Go for it!
Caleb will motivate you to learn, and you and Brandon both study, inspire and encourage each other :)
God will be your strength!
Love

Hi Kehau & Brandon,
We missed Micaiah in the Children's Ark this past Sunday, but I hope you all had a great 4th of July weekend. How is Caleb doing these days? And how's school going for you?
much aloha,
Rachel
