Caleb is back HOME!

We brought Caleb home around 6pm last night. He was doing well after the first day. He is still a little groggy but we are trying to slowly get him back into his routine. He was so happy to be home...he knocked out as soon as he got into his bed and slept really well...about twelve hours!!! His neurologist doubled his phenobarbital (seizure) medication. If you've been following the blog, that is the one that we were weaning him off of. He was down to 4mL once a day and is now up to 4mL TWICE a day. All of Caleb's blood tests came back okay and his cat scan showed nothing new. He had a trachea infection which isn't that bad considering there are a lot of other worse things that he could have gotten. He was able to get antibiotics that can be given through his g-tube as well as some aerosol treatments. So we are happy to be back home!
We were beyond blessed to have Patrick as Caleb's nurse while he was in the PICU. And were blessed by many loved ones visiting Caleb.
This is the whole story of what happened on Wednesday morning:
At around 4:30 or 4:45 in the morning I awoke to suction Caleb. He had got a cold the day before...showing signs of thick secretions just 12 hours before. So Tuesday night I slept in his be with him and was up most of the time suctioning him. At around that last time I sutioned him, his oxygen levels started to decrease and his heart rate was increasing. I grabbed the oxygen tank (which we never use) and tried to turn it on. But it wasn't going. So I grabbed the back up tank but I had to switch over the key thing. Which I didn't have time to do. His oxygen levels starting decreasing quite rapidly. I was talking to Caleb trying to get him to look at me but he wouldn't. I didn't have time to do anything as he started to turn pale and soon his lips were blue. I grabbed the ambu bag and started performing (trach) CPR with it. His oxygen levels started to increase again as I called out for my mom to come into the room and told her to call 911. His oxygen levels started to go pretty low again for awhile but I was able to keep it at a safe level using the ambu bag until the paramedics arrived. Brandon was on his way to work when it all happened as he had to work early that morning. My mom called him after she called 911 and he turned around and came back home just a little after the paramedics arrived.
When they arrived they took over and I rode with Caleb in the ambulance down to Kapiolani Hospital. He was shaking a lot. When we arrived at the hospital he started seizing (that's what they said). So they dosed him up with A LOT of seizure meds. He stopped and when he was more stable they took him in for a cat scan and then he was admitted to the PICU. He was completely out for that whole day as he was heavily medicated. We weren't worried but it was definitely not fun to be there and brought back a lot of memories from last year. Patrick was there in the ER with us as he came down when I called him and told him what had happened. He stayed with Caleb the whole day. We were blessed to have him to explain some things to us and just for everything...
I prayed the whole time from when his stats started to drop at home. And God graciously gave me peace and I was able to hold my composure.
We missed the fundraiser at Holy Nativity but we heard that they sold all the Jamba Juice that was brought! One of the mothers from Keiki O Ka Aina went down to the school for the fundraiser as everyone that was at KOKA on thursday wanted to buy Jamba Juice to support Caleb! How sweet! ...thank you EVERYONE!
Caleb's fine because of all the prayers that were lifted up once again! I received chains of emails and personal emails on my phone that morning as prayers were going all around! That definitely brought us a lot more peace!
We were able to focus more on others while Caleb was in the ICU. We knew two other kids that were there. There was one little girl who was very ill. I knew her mother as I used to work with her a couple years ago. I was able to talk to the little girl's grandmother also and shared what had happened to Caleb. Caleb was in that situation before...on total life support. Brandon went over to pray for her along with our pastor from Pursuit and a few others. A couple hours later, yesterday...the girl went home to be with Jesus! Her name is Destiny and she was six years old. Could you please pray for her family?! We know she's happy now but I can't imagine what her family is going through. So please keep them in your prayers.
Right next door to Caleb was a couple we know from church...and Pursuit. Their son Levi got sick and was admitted just after Caleb was on Wednesday. He is doing much better now but is still at the hospital. Please keep him in your prayers too! Pray that God will heal him...NOW.
When we left the hospital yesterday...they said they were grateful that we were there because it helped them to stay calm.
The Lord works in all ways! Despite the circumstances...I am glad that we were there when we were and that we were able to help others. God can use EVERYTHING to bring HIM glory!...and to bring us back to HIM!
We are so blessed to be home! Thank you Lord for reminding us where Caleb was at a year ago and what a miracle he is! Thank you Father for showing us your gracious healing in Caleb! Thank you all for your endless prayers. We are BLESSED!

Praise the Lord! I'm so happy that Caleb is home. Thank You, Lord! Also, you are so right about God using this for His glory. I'm still praying for Larry and Shanell, and little Levi. God is in control. Thank you for your prayers and faith. It encourages me to see how your family sticks together and clings to the Lord. God bless! Caleb, may God continue to do His mighty work through you!
