This morning we arrived at Kapiolani MC for Caleb's scheduled doctor's visit. Well, on the way there his saturation level had decreased to its high 80s and low 90s...pretty constantly. So our nurse went to get him an oxygen tank and hooked him up to it. Then we went to see his pediatrician and he ordered a chest xray. So we went down and got that done...took forever. The xray was clear...his lungs had no signs of aspiration and all was normal. So our pediatrician told us to go down to the ER because we had to compare our pulse oximeter with the hospitals one and just to monitor him and see what was going on. His respiratory rate was a little low and not very consistent. There were some moments when he wouldn't breathe and then start to breathe again. Just for a few seconds though. And it turns out our oximeter is once again a dud. The machine at the ER was reading about 4 points higher than ours...give or take a few points at times. They decided that they wanted to watch him overnight to see what was going on so Caleb was re-admitted. It was a very long day at the hospital that was not anticipated. We had Micaiah with us too...poor guy...but he was so good and cooperative the whole time.
So I just got home. I had to bring our nurse back to get her car so she could go home and bring Micaiah home...and get stuff for me and Brandon to spend another miserable night at KMCWC. We are praying that he will be able to go home tomorrow. Please, please, pray for Caleb that all is well and he will be able to go home tomorrow. We were supposed to take him to see his class tomorrow too! He was looking forward to it...and so were we. So we will have to post pone that. I just wanted to write a quick blog to update all of you on the latest...our miserable, tiring, long day. Please pray for Caleb...we want to bring him back home. It is so much better at home...He is so much better at home. And we wanna be able to be home with Micaiah too!
Well, I will update you tomorrow on whats going on! Thank you for praying for him! We know everything will be okay...I also wanted to thank everyone for posting blogs. I really enjoy reading them all and it often lifts us up when we are feeling a little down. Thank you for taking the time to do so...and for taking the time to read the blogs too! God Bless...

My son, Samuel, had sleep apnea after his near drowning. He would not take a breath for about a minute while sleeping and then suddenly take a few. His stats would always drop while he held his breath and come right back when he stopped. We just kept him on 1/2 a liter to a liter of oxygen just when he was sleeping. It took about a year, but eventually, it disappeared. It still happens for a minute or two now and again, but for the most part it is gone. I think it was somewhat magnified by some of the medications he was on - especially the benzodiazapines (tranxene specifically). Maybe that's what's going on with Caleb. Hopefully it's something simple!

I am praying for you and your precious son and family. My sister Jamie teaches music at Caleb's school and she has been keeping me informed of his progress. I have four little ones of my own and I cannot imagine what you have all been going through. Your faith and trust in God and God's work in Caleb is inspiring. Thank-you.
We're continuing to pray for all of you. Heard last night (you probably missed it) that Kamakana's and your story will air on KGMB at 10 p.m. (in Hawaii, that's channel 9 (analog) 7 (Oceanic cable) and 87 (Oceanic digital)). Take care and be strong in the joy of our Lord!
Love you all!
Aloha Kehau, Brandon, Caleb and Micaiah!
Keeping you all close in prayer today and knowing that we will continue to receive praise reports for Caleb! The other day a piece of paper blew into our yard...I picked it up and noticed that it belonged to a little girl up the street ...and the paper indicated that she is in kindergarten at...get this... Kaimuki Christian...I saw her on the street with another girl who I found out also goes there...anyway...Kiana and Mahea are sending their blessings...they were so cute when I asked them if they knew Caleb..they got all excited and said they are hoping to see him back at school. They said even though they are older than him and not in his class they know all about him. Stay strong you guys...God has so much more in store for all of you!
Showers of Blessings,
Nat
